Another Monday is here. And this week looks to be a long one, especially for those awaiting the outcome of the U.S. Presidential election. It’s going to be a doozy.
As with most things difficult, unsettling, or steeped in uncertainty, I’ll be using music to help me focus on something else as needed.
We’ll be dealing with that all week, so let’s dive into the music, shall we?
Don’t Change
I’m not a big INXS fan. My husband LOVES them. But we manage to agree that this song is fantastic. The reason I chose it for this week’s cover collection, though, focuses on a band I do love. Spanish Love Songs.
I get it. They’re not everyone’s cup of tea. The vocals can get a little nasal, whiny, and emo. I was hooked immediately when I heard them pay homage to Scott Hutchison on “Routine Pain.”
On any given day, I’m a six of ten …
Back to today’s topic. I stumbled across the SLS cover of “Don’t Change” this weekend, and I immediately moved the song to the top of my Multiple Versions Monday idea list.
I was thrilled to find three other covers to round out a playlist.
The Playlist
How’d this week’s original and covers treat you? I really enjoy working on this series each week. It’s both fun and challenging! And I take note of every suggestion you make. I’ve got months worth of these on my list. We’ll be taking this themed post into 2025, for sure! Let me know what you thought. And keep those suggestions coming!
I’m a huge fan of INXS and love this song so much!! I love all of these versions! I was addicted to Like a Version for quite a spell a few years ago (also BBC1 covers). Love the Vance Joy and GooGoo Dolls versions especially!
The original sets such a high bar, but man, Face to face and The Goo Goo Dolls sure did it justice! The latter have a knack for picking just the right song to cover.
