One of the things I want to balance better in 2025 is music discovery and rediscovery. Future and past listens are both important to me, and I want to make sure my focus is evenly divided between the two.
This means my future Two For Tuesday playlists may be new to me listens one week and then past favorites the next.
This week focuses on the new, so get ready for some listening!
Two For Tuesday: New To Me Listens
Ten songs, two each from five new to me artists. I think two songs gives you an idea whether or not the sound resonates with you without giving you an epic playlist to dig through. So I’m sticking with the format this year.
This week’s playlist launches with Sea On Fire. This quartet from The Netherlands only have two songs available on Spotity, so you’re getting their full discography for the time being. I do like Bram Opdam’s vocals and the rock sound. Let me know what you think!
Next up, is Cruise Balloon. It’s what my great music friend
would call typical British indie, but I like the ringing sound of the guitars and the angsty vocals. It’s a sound that’s not yet “overdone” for me. It’s got a bit of an 80’s vibe beneath the standard indie! In the third spot it’s Tentative Decisions. The sound is quirky and grabs your attention. It’s like a more rocking DEVO (although DEVO certainly rocks). Or maybe DEVO with a side of Pavement? You’ll have to listen to see if you hear it!
I also love the behind the scenes rant about airlines on “Jawbreaker.”
We turn to a more indie folk/Americana/rock sound with TENTS. They manage to merge them all, along with some electronic sounds and beats. I love the dual male/female vocals on “No Grind.” Their album, OMG, released in mid-December, so they didn’t make many year end lists, which is a shame. It’s good stuff!
We round out this week’s playlist with a band I stumbled upon yesterday, See Plus. A clever take on their school grades? Who knows? But the sound is definitely in the A range, no Cs in sight! The band’s been around since 2016, so I’m surprised I haven’t come across them before now. Fortuitous! Their sound is hard for me to describe, as it’s a mixture of the many bits that make songs stand out to me. Vocals, guitars, keys and electronics in the background, and simple, but smart lyrics. We’ll see if they make your ears take note!
The Playlists
That’s this week’s playlist. Let me know if you find a new listen to add to your own growing playlists! Drop me a comment. They make my day!
Love this selection! I agree with you about the Sea On Fire vocals; I think they give something of an 80s vibe. I actually really like both Cruise Balloon tracks too, particularly Sixty Minutes Late. It is very typical of British indie music but something about the vocals and guitars set it apart from a lot of other bands of the same ilk. I also enjoyed Tentative Decisions and will be checking out the album. My favourite in this selection however, is the TENTS track, Light Breaks In The Middle Of The Night. Absolutely love it!
Well, I'm just gonna have to check these out!
