Good morning. I’m not starting off with my usual “happy Friday” thoughts, because this isn’t a particularly happy day. I’m going to visit someone who played a major role in my life today. That someone was moved to hospice with terminal cancer.
While I have many happy memories and I am happy I get to see this person while they’re still capable of a visit, it’s left me feeling a bit off all week. That, tied to the usual work demands, has made for a less than optimal week.
Music, as always, has helped get me through. My headphones stay on all day, and between Zoom and Teams meetings my playlists surround me in my favorite songs and sounds.
This Week’s Favorite Fifteen
This week’s list is a mix of indie folk and power pop, with a few other genres represented with a single song. Most of this week’s listens are new-to-me finds. Though the occasional old favorite, like Stabbing Westward, do make a showing.
The standout tracks this week are:
“Bergeron” by Typhoon
“Michael Cera” by Skyuka
“forlyleinsanfrancisco” by meg elsier
“Not The Kid” by Communist Daughter
“Happiest Day Of Your Life” by The Apache Relay
“Bees 2” by 100 Watt Horse

That’s this week’s Favorite Fifteen. I hope one or two tracks, at least, stand out enough for addition to one of your playlists. And I’m sorry that today’s lead in is a bit on the sad side. But music is there no matter which emotion you’re feeling. And music soothes sadness.
I’m sorry you’ve had a tough week, Mallie. You are absolutely correct about music’s ability to act as a comfort blanket and to help lift your spirits. I’m glad it’s helped you through and I look forward to listening to your choices - love an indie playlist!
Sending you strength during this difficult time. When hardship or tragedy strikes dear friends, I like to listen to “Ripple” by the Grateful Dead.
