Hello readers. Remember a few weeks ago when I shared that I was spending the day visiting someone in hospice? That person passed away on Sunday.
That person was my ex-husband. We had a great relationship post-divorce, all things considered. We went out to lunch a few times each year to catch up and we shared photos of the “kids.” He took the dog and I took Turkey Trot (not a turkey, she’s a cat) when we separated. We were married for ten years.
He was a former professional athlete. He won the national championship as Elite AA Pro in 1997. The sport? BMX. Seeing him, an incredibly athletic and outdoorsy guy, confined to a bed after cancer broke his pelvis, was especially heart rending.
He was 49. His 50th birthday would have been this May.
I made a special playlist for this sad occasion. It’s made up of ten of my favorite songs with the word “goodbye” in the title. These are NOT all about losing a loved one. Some of the goodbyes are for bad relationships, etc. I hope in this instance, you’ll allow me that indulgence. This is simply a list of songs about saying goodbye, no matter the fashion or the premise.

Please feel free to comment. I know hearing from you will boost my spirits. And if you’d like, please feel free to send your best thoughts through the ether, in hopes that his wife, his daughters, his Dad, and everyone else missing him, can find some peace however they choose to say goodbye.
So sorry, Mallie - this sounds like a very tough time. Glad you found some music to help pull you through, along with this little online community. Sending strength as you go through the rest of it.
Oh Mallie, I'm sorry to see this! F**k cancer. I hope you're doing (relatively) okay. Sending all the positive energy I got down your way!
