I have a thing for Scottish music, indie and major label. Frightened Rabbit, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Twin Atlantic, Idlewild, The Waterboys, Big Country, Biffy Clyro, etc.
NOTE: This is by no means the full list.
So it should startle no one to know I have a thing for Glasvegas.
Glasvegas
Depending on the day, many a band takes the top, but one, slot as my favorite Scottish music-makers, right behind Frightened Rabbit. Glasvegas is one of the bands involved in this long-term-skirmish.
They’re different. Different than the more hard and in your face rocking of Twin Atlantic or We Were Promised Jetpacks. Different than the anthemic folk bent of Idlewild. They’re different. And it works for me.
The music is just as raw and emotional as that by my favored Frightened Rabbit. It’s full of angst and delightful Scottish turns of phrase. It’s at turns angry, sad, despondent, hopeful, and hopeless.
What more can I say? The music, the lyrics, the emotion you can’t ignore, they all speak for themselves. Listening is the only way you can decide for yourself.

Note: Unfortunately, one of the ten songs is not available on Apple Music.
Are you already a Glasvegas fan? Did I represent their emotion and raw passion with my ten selections? New to the band? Will you add any songs to your liked list?
Thanks for the recommendation. I've never heard of them before. Digging the music and the band name.
Great post, as always, Mallie! I'm listening to Glasvegas now for the first time, thanks to you. If you enjoy Scottish Indie rock, you might enjoy the Particle Detector playlists dedicated to the genre:
