Good Monday morning! It’s a short week for many of us in the USA. Thanksgiving is Thursday and many business are closed both Thursday and Friday.
I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving. My husband takes a three-day break to hang out with his family and friends, while I start Christmas prep and enjoy all the movies he doesn’t really want to watch with me. LOL. It works for us!
I love Christmas, so you may see some posts with a holiday bent soon. You are free to scroll past if that’s not your thing!
Back to the music discussion and today’s song selection(s).
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
I’ve been holding on to this series of covers for a while, because there are SOOOOOOO many options. It was really difficult to keep the playlist on the shorter side.
I may not have selected your favorite cover. You can share it in the comments. I always love to hear from you. But these are my selections and I’m pleased with the differences and similarities, as well as the bands selected.
Trespassers William is one of those bands that I forget about for months or years at a time, and then binge when one of their songs pops up at random.
Dum Dum Girls are a Hart household favorite, so there was no way I was leaving this version out.
If I believed in guilty pleasures ( I don’t, I like what I like and make no apologies), Stroke 9 would be on my list. I love the stripped down arrangement and vocals.
The Playlist
What do you think? Did I hit or miss? There are so many fine covers of this song, some staying tight and true to the original, with others trying to add a unique spin. I’m sure you have thoughts. Share those thoughts in the comments, please!
I’ve had an absolutely manic fortnight so only just getting around to this but what a treat! This is a great selection! So much light and shade here.
I love this song with considerable intensity so I am loath to say that any of the covers surpass it but the last three are all excellent in their own way and the Dum Dum Girls version really is a bit special. Thanks for sharing these, Mallie.
I’m gonna go with a tie between The Northern Lights Quintet and Dum Dum Girls. Dare I say that both are better than the original?!
