Threepeat Thursday: August 29, 2024
Three songs each from three artists, including 2024 releases!
Hello and happy Thursday to you all! On Thursdays we threepeat. Three songs is the “right” number of listens to decide an artist is worth a deeper dive, right?
We’ve got a fun mix of sounds today. We start off with power pop, dive right in to 2024 political punk energy, and round out the list with lo-fi grungy goodness with a bit of groove.
Three Artists & Three Songs
We launch this week’s playlist with Learn To Drive. The keys that introduce “Impossible Love” drew me in right away. Then the vocals kicked in and the mildly angsty delivery were the hook. Short and sweet, the song was my gateway into a deeper dive. The band’s Spotify bio describes their sound as “timeless songs with energy and purpose,” and I can get behind that. There’s plenty of 60s-inspired pop love song energy to drive a feeling of nostalgia, which is sure to get me to listen. How about you?
Next we go in a completely different direction. Lambrini Girls launches an assault on the senses first with the driving guitar and pounding drums. The vocals only continue the assault. It’s like a female fronted Sex Pistols. Angry, British politics front and center. I can’t choose any of the three songs as my favorite this time around. It’s all awesome, angry, and loud. Awesomeness.
We’ve got another female-fronted artist rounding out this week’s playlist. But it’s not as loud and not as angry. “Swim,” by Devon, starts off gorgeously. Moody, but melodic. The vocals are fuzzy, distorted, and delightful. I love the simplicity of the guitar, and of the entire song. It’s spare, but powerful with it. I love music that doesn’t try too hard, and Devon’s got a lock on it.

There you go. Another week, a series of new listens and possibly new artists. What stood out? What made an entry onto one of your playlists? We had big style changes with each new artist. Which was your favorite?
Let’s chat in the comments. You know I love to hear from you!
This is a really fun playlist. I really like Devon Ross’s vocals. One to watch I think. I remain on the fence with Lambrini Girls. I like it but I’m not sure how much sustained listening my ears could take.
Devon Ross was my favorite of these. Major Kim Gordon vibes. I can only find a 4 song EP from her which is just your playlist + 1 more song. Here's hoping for a full album.
