It’s been a rough week. Twelve hour days. Jumping between three “high priority” deadlines. Listening to music of my choice has helped me make it through, even with another week of the same ahead of me.
Without any further ado, let’s dive into some listening!
The Artists!
Olivia Elizabeth Basar, out of central Pennsylvania, launches this week’s list with three gems. “Back Where I Was” showcases her delightful vocals, and the grungy guitars add edge and grit. The other two songs are softer, sweeter, melancholy, but just as appealing. The standout is Olivia herself and she shines on each of these three tracks.
Next up, we’ve got Collins Beach. Their bio is empty, so I don’t know a lot about them, their musical journey, or their influences. What do I know? “Build Up” is jangly guitar pop goodness with boyishly earnest vocal charm to boot. If I was going to use one word to describe the style, I’d choose poignant.
And the list rounds out with one of my favorite finds of the month, Secondhand Sound. “Courage In The Growler” is incredible, yet it’s one less played songs on their 2023 release, Courage. It’s energetic, catchy, with just enough angst to keep it from being too sweet. “Balloons” is a bit darker, grittier, with grungy guitar. The lyrics are punchy and playful, even when the subject matter is not.

As always, I’d love to hear what you think. I’m especially happy with this week’s three artists. I hope you are too!
Great selection, as always, Mallie! I love Secondhand Sound and had already added Courage in the Growler to my liked list, but what a great track Rorschach is! I also really like Don Quixote from that album.
Collins Beach is exactly the sort of thing my son would love so I will be passing on the recommendation. Thank you.
