I have too many ideas to publish them all. I know, that’s not really something to complain about. But trying to keep track of them is brutal. Between notebooks and spreadsheets, you’d think this was a full-time job. I mean, wouldn’t it be cool to earn my living avidly seeking, hearing, and sharing music old, new, and everything in-between?
But seriously. It’s not easy to balance sharing my latest discoveries with sharing all of my long-time favorites. And, then there are all of the themes I want to launch and share on the regular. I know, AGAIN. It’s a first-world problem of little real impact and importance. But it plagues me, I tell you.
Threepeat Thursday
These posts usually focus on new(er) and new to me finds. And that’s what I’ve got in store this week.
We kick things off with Eau Claire, WI’s The Over Unders. It’s pop-peppy Americana-adjacent alt rock loveliness, with a fondness for mentioning whiskey. And glorious vocals that slide deliciously up and down between chorus and verse. This recent Threads find is, quite simply, FANTASTIC. Can you help me out and get these guys well over the 10K listeners per month mark?
Next up, is another Threads find, the terrific trio that is Archy & The Astronauts. First, kudos from this lover of alliteration. Second, they ROCK! It’s sludgy, grungy, groovy, and dirty alternative rock at its finest. The vocals pair perfectly, moving from conversational talk-singing to belted chorus. That these young men have less than 2,000 monthly listens is a CRIME against music discovery. Let’s fix that!
This week’s playlist rounds out with the massive talent of Joe P. While he’s got a larger listening audience than the first two artists shared, that’s not a good reason to leave him hanging. He’s still an artist and musician, and I support them when their music is freaking fantastic. And his music is just that. My favorite of the three is “Everybody’s Different.” It’s a mesmerizing mixture of electronic beats and fuzzy, distorted noise, topped with his strong vocal delivery. It’s got an early techno vibe that takes me back to my college days, sweating my ass off at the local bar’s Techno night. Be prepared for the transition into the second song and an almost entirely different, but still awesome, sound.
The Playlists
There you go. Three songs, each, from three new/new(ish) to me artists. What’d you think? Any additions to your own playlists? I had a blast putting this week’s playlist together. I hope you have as much fun listening!
I like "Our Lives" and "Glass House" best. Archy & the Astronauts are beyond my speed!
Thanks, Mallie, I like all three of these. Archy and the Astronauts might be my favourite.
