We owe a lot to the teen movies we loved in the 1980s. We learned you can date outside your socioeconomic “class.” We learned that nerds can find love, too. And these movies introduced a LOT of awesome music into our lives!
Valley Girl introduced us to Sparks. Pretty In Pink gave us The Rave-Ups. And Some Kind Of Wonderful put The March Violets in front of many of us.
Much more popular in the UK than they ever were in the States, The March Violets stomped all over our feels with growling dual male and female lead vocals, over new wave licks of guitar.
The movie lured us in with “Turn To The Sky,” which, sadly, isn’t available on Spotify, so you get the less “finished” demo version. And who can forget the cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Miss Amanda Jones.”
But more intrepid music seekers are known to dig deeper and unearth some gems that went pretty much unheard on the radio stations of our youth. And that’s why this Throwback Thursday post is dedicated to The March Violets.

I hope you enjoyed this little look back. What bands should I feature in future Throwback Thursday publishes? Were you already a fan of the Violets? If not, are you now?
Another very good band I somehow missed. Thanks! Interesting songs, very good lead singer and I love the rhythm section.
Some Kind of Wonderful is one of my very favourite 80s movies. I have watched it countless times and yet was still unfamiliar with March Violets (although I obviously remember the cover of “Miss Amanda Jones” from the film and “Turn to the Sky” was like an old friend I had forgotten, the second the demo started playing.) Thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you so much!
