Good morning. Happy Monday. Happy New Year. Etc.
It’s the first day of the first full workweek of January for most of us. I woke up exhausted. Future dread. It’s real. But we’ve got music to get us through.
I’ll continue to share my collections of covers on Mondays in 2025. Let’s dive right into this week’s song, shall we?
Time After Time
I love Cyndi Lauper. I was really sad to miss her farewell tour late last year. My husband now laments not going to it with me. Anywho. “Time After Time.” Not my favorite Lauper song, but it’s a gorgeous song. Often used on sticoms when a character is going through a breakup.
Her relationship with Rob Hyman from The Hooters paid off in inumerable ways, this song being only one of them.
I’ve compiled the original and four covers for you today. You never know what kinds of covers you’ll find when you do a search. Male. Female. Metal. Punk. Hardcore. I always try to share a variety, but I also have to enjoy the cover and want to listen to it when it shows up while playing my Liked Songs list on shuffle.
The Playlist
There you go! The first Multiple Versions Monday playlist of the new year. How was it? Did you like any of the covers or are you sticking with the original? I love the original, but I’m also partial to the Iron & Wine version! Let me know what you think!
I love this song so much but for that reason most of these covers don’t stand up for me. I don’t really enjoy Sam Smith’s vocals and while parts of the Eva Cassidy version are lovely, I get frustrated when she changes the phrasing. The Gunship cover just feels a bit cluttered to me. I do like the Iron and Wine version though because it doesn’t surprise me. I really liked his work on the In Good Company soundtrack too.
In short, I don’t think the original can be bettered. I’d love to hear a punk version though.
Nothing topped the original for me.
