Avid music listeners and seekers know that sometimes you look forward for brand spanking new listens, and sometimes you look back for nearly forgotten past favorites or artists and songs you missed the first time around.
I’m in a looking backward mood today, so I’m focusing on ‘80s and ‘90s jangle this week. Jangly rock, jangly pop, jangly pop-punk … you get the drift.
Getting My Jangle On
This week’s Two For Tuesday playlist includes delightful (in my ears, at the very least) blast from the past listens from 28th Day + Barbara Manning, The Outnumbered, The Clean, Sex Clark Five, and Shop Assistants.
Most of us recognize jangle when we hear it, but there were so many bands that got lost in the shuffle when bands like R.E.M., Velocity Girl, Guadalcanal Diary, and more got the bulk of the listens.
But I’ve got a real soft spot for these lesser heard artists. There’s some great jangle hiding out, waiting to be discovered and rediscovered.

As you can see, the morning and early afternoon got away from me before I could publish. But it’s still Tuesday, so it’s still a good time for a Two For Tuesday playlist. Let me know what stood out. Thanks!
Great stuff, Mallie. I'd forgotten about The Clean until recently, as they got lost in the flood of cool Flying Nun/NZ acts for me. I rediscovered them via a great bootleg of Calexico as a duo doing The Blue:

All good tracks, but particularly like “25 Pills.”
