I had an in-person work session this morning, so I’m late getting to my Tuesday music discovery publish and playlist. The new business is starting to take off, which means more money for vinyl and CDs in my future. It also means I need to settle into a schedule. I’m getting there.
It’s Tuesday. That means new and new-to-me music discovery discussion and sharing. What’s on tap today? Let’s dive in and see!
Five Bands, Ten Songs
We’re kicking off today’s playlist and discussion with Use Soap, a Swedish band who describe themselves as easygoing and sincere. Not sure what that means musically, but I bet they’re easy to talk to at networking events. LOL. The two songs I’m sharing are easy listens, rather than sonic onslaughgts. They’re warm and comforting. Perfect rainy day listening, without being too sleepy.
Next up, we’ve got TAPE TOY. Self-described as bubblegum grunge, there is a peppy energy with just enough darkness to keep you from getting a toothache. With bright clear female vocals, and synth to add brightness to the grungy guitars, they’re a fun listen. Check ‘em out!
Taking the third slot is Cloakroom. Contemplative and calming, but with a sinister undertone, this is my favorite find this week. “Unbelonging” describes feelings most if us have felt and grappled with. They’ve been around for a while, since 2013 to be exact. I’m surprised I haven’t stumbled across them before now, as they’re definitely my cup of tea,
On to IST IST, a Mancunian four-piece formed in 2014. There’s a nostalgic 1980s vibe to “The Kiss,” but it also sounds very now. That’s the vibe I get. The vocals are talk-sung, very masculine, but not stridently so. They were hoping to take off in 2024. I’m not sure if that happened, but they did land in front of me, and now you.
And we round out this week’s list with delightful and decadent electronic sounds from Combover Beethoven. They’re not that new to me, as I’m connected with them on my favorite social media platform for music discovery and discussion, Threads. I immediately loved, “Borders,’ but a deeper dive added several new tracks to my Liked Songs list, and got the band shortlisted for one of my Top 50 albums of the year, to be shared late in December.
The Playlist
All righty. What did you think about this week’s selections? Did you make any additions to one of your playlists? Let a girl know, pretty puh-leeze. It’s a dark and drippy November day, perfect for some music discussion in the comments!
Digging IST IST and Cloakroom -- thanks for the heads up!
