Two For Tuesday: September 17, 2024
Two songs each from five artists to create a playlist of must listens ...
Good morning. It’s Tuesday. Meaning it’s no longer Monday. One day down and only four remaining in the work week. You’ve got to celebrate the small things. If you’re working for the weekend, one day done and dusted can only be a good thing! Unless it’s a Saturday.
But I digress …
It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time to check out some new, new-ish, and new to me listens. Will your new “favorite” be shared today? You won’t know unless you take the time to read and listen. Will you do that for me? Pretty please!
Two Songs, Five Artists
This week’s selections are all a bit dark, gritty, edgy, and even a bit angry. They were prompted by a playlist put together by the band Galaxy Parade. Much like
recently shared, one of the best ways to discover new music is to listen to the music your favorite bands and artists are enjoying. The list launches with HeartlessArik (an homage to Wreckless Eric???). This emerging artist from Michigan shares his music to help those feeling/suffering from the same emotions he battles in his songs. Embracing honest emotion in your songs is one of the best ways to grab and gain my attention.
Next up is Tina Hyde. Her vocals layer a sweetness over the soft, but sinister. For some reason I get a real Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas vibe from “Spells,” and I’m here for it. What do you hear when you listen?
Taking the middle spot on the playlist is Back Alley Gospel, with the most straightforward power pop vibe on the playlist. There’s plenty of retro jangle, and a definite bluegrass vibe, in the guitars, and the bass on “I Can’t Say” adds a funky vibe. These two tracks are probably the most accessible on the list, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
We dive back into the dark, spooky, and edgy with the two tracks from Megg Jacobs. I love the beauty of her sung vocals, and the power of the screams. I enjoy harder music when I’m in a certain mood, and this absolutely fits that bill. I love the mix of the melodic with the angsty anger in the screams. It’s a great combo in my book. How about you?
The list rounds out with Death Waits. There’s something about the vocals that really draws me in. They’re not perfect (I’m not a fan of overly produced music in general), but they’re perfect for the two songs I’ve chosen to share. I love the mixture of grunge and post punk vibes, along with the oddly mesmerizing (at least to me) vocals. They remind me of someone, it’s on the tip of my tongue, but I can’t quite grasp it. Do you hear it? If you do, share it with me!
The Playlists
That’s this week’s ten tracks shared. Did you find something new and fun to add to one of your playlists? Or was the vibe this week not really your cup of tea? I welcome your comments either way. I love to know what gets you listening and enjoying, and what makes your press pause and look for something else. Chime in and let’s keep sharing and showcasing the music you want to hear!
Great to listen to these, Mallie but this week wasn’t for me so much. The playlist has a bit too much of a metal edge for my taste.
The Death Waits vocalist is giving me Sebadoh vibes. Is that the name you were looking for?
