Two For Tuesday: September 24, 2024
Two songs each from five bands or artists that are new or new-to-me this week!
Hi there. Happy Tuesday. We’re stuck into the work week, aren’t we?I’ll have some news on the job front next week (it’s all good, but I have to sort a few things out before I can announce). Sorry if that’s a bit cryptic, but you’re here for the music discovery and discussion, so let’s get back to that!
Two For Tuesday
If you pay any attention to your Spotify Discover Weekly playlist, you’re well aware that some weeks it’s on fire and some weeks it’s closer to a dumpster fire. It’s either SO right or SO misguided. At least in my experience. How about yours?
This week mine delivered the fire and each of today’s shares came from that single playlist. It was a diverse list this week and I’m here for it. I love it when a playlist effectively combines genres in a cohesive curated sound. That’s what I got this week and I hope a few of these artists provide you the same great listening experience.
The playlist launches with IDER. There’s not a lot of information available in Spotify, so I’ll have to dive into Google search to see what else I can find out. Or rely on those of you already familiar with their sound. I hear a killer combination of sludgy shoegaze and grungy electronic dance, especially on “Late to the World.” What do you hear?
Sliding into the number two spot is Nat Lefkoff. How can you not love a guy who mentions his cat in his Spotify bio? I love the passion, not perfect, delivery of his vocals and the understated smarts in his lyrics. I love unique voices that deliver emotional performances and IMHO, Nat delivers. His focus on being himself, with his friends and family, and with his music, works!
Next up, it’s Bird’s View. It’s another genre hop, but it continues with the impassioned vocal delivery. We’re soundly in alt-rock territory, but it’s not tired. I don’t feel like I’ve “been there and already heard that.” It’s familiar and comfortable, but it won’t get relegated to background sound. And German bands are my weakness after those made up of Scots, so this is right in my wheelhouse. Where does it fit in for you?
Bettine Solf is a mystery. She showed up in my playlist, but there’s nothing in her bio but a photo. The photo vibes with her joy front and center in her vibrant pink jacket. We’ve hopped genres again and we’re back to pop with a decidedly danceable energy. I get the same vibe I do when I listen to MARINA. She doesn’t have a vast discography, so I’m hoping she follows up on what she delivers with “Landing.”
We round out this week’s playlist with Sunsick Daisy (what a great name). These Aussies offer up female fronted alt-rock with a grungy guitar sound boosted by power pop licks to keep things peppy. It’s a mix of dark and light, dirty and sparkling clean. I’m a fan of bands who combine dynamics to create their own sound and I believe that’s what we get with these two listens. What do you think?
The Playlists
That’s this week’s Two For Tuesday playlist compiled and shared. Let me know if anything grabbed you enough to add it to one of your playlists. You know I love hearing from you, so drop a comment below! Have a terrific Tuesday!
I've heard other songs by Ider. They're probably my favorite here.
