I’ve mentioned before how much I love the music community that is growing on Threads. It’s a fantastic and eclectic group of people who love, share, and discuss an eclectic mix of music.
One of my favorite parts of the community are the engagement challenges. Themed music shares are a great way to remind yourself of old favorites while also seeking out new listens.
Recently, I took part in a new challenge.
20 Days Of Uncommon Love Songs
What’s an uncommon love song? The challenge describe them as follows: “Good love, bad love, sexy love, heartbreak, all of the feels. Hoping you'll dig deep here and select interesting tunes that perhaps everyone doesn't know. Think deep cuts or an underrated artist.”
I took that to mean all stages of “love” love songs. And songs we often don’t think about as love songs. Songs about break-ups, unrequited love, non-romantic love, and bad relationships and their aftermath.
Those are the songs I chose to fill my twenty days.

Are you a fan of love songs? Consider your self a connoisseur of the uncommon additions to the genre? What would you add? I’d love to know, as I always like to revisit and eventually revise my themed playlists. You also know how much I love your comments. Drop ‘em below!
Enjoyed listening to this. Songs about the underside of love are always better imo!
So many songs I would love to choose on this theme:
More well known choices would be Coffee by Chappell Roan and Cornerstone by Arctic Monkeys but I’d also go for Baby by Black Honey which is about recognising you are at the end of a relationship, Eclipse by Prima Queen which is about being too messed up from a previous relationship to fully embrace a new one, and Love Is A Serious Mental Illness by Chilli Jesson - the title says it all!
I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t mention We Are Scientists. A myriad to choose from but I’d go with Textbook, containing the line “I’m smitten but not stupid” which seems pretty apt for the theme in hand.
The first song that came to my mind is Wolf Alice’s cover of Desire (originally by years & years)- not on Spotify, but on YouTube https://youtu.be/RFov9U27EjI?si=r-MCNnPRY-ab_oM9 also one of my favorite covers.
Lazy Eye by Silversun Pickups is another that came to mind.
Love Depeche Mode and the National, and Silly Girl is one of my favorite Descendents songs!
