Hi there! Happy Monday and here’s to a week that’s all killer, no filler. Or maybe we can just have a week free of random crap that we can’t do much about?
Last night I saw Violent Femmes in concert with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. It was a fantastic show. The way the orchestra added to the sound was inspiring. It reminded me of how truly beautiful many Violent Femmes songs are.
I knew I had to share a Multiple Versions Monday based on one of their songs. As the concert last night focused on their self-titled debut, it made sense to choose “Blister In The Sun,” even though I’m a bigger fan of their subsequent releases.
Multiple Versions, Lots To Love
We’ve got a nice variety of different takes this week, which isn’t always the case with a cover, especially a shorter song like this one.
Which will be your favorite? I guess you’ll have to listen and let me know!

How’d this week’s covers treat you? Which was your favorite? Did the covers do justice to the original? Let me know in the comments. And if you have any recommendations for future covers, you know I love to add to my list!
Wow, I haven’t listened to Violent Femmes in WAY too long! I loved that debut back in the day, couldn’t get enough of it but then they somehow dropped off my musical radar.
Blister in the Sun feels so singular that it’s tough to imagine anyone covering it. I probably hadn’t thought of KT Tunstall in 15 years or so, didn’t know she was still making music. I liked her cover but the clement hall version is probably my favorite.
I’ll take a look at your Violent Femmes deep cut playlist as well, thanks for sharing that!
Blister In The Sun is actually the only Violent Femmes song I really know but I absolutely love it. I’m not sure that any of these covers really measure up tbh. I found the Vitamin String Quartet version the most interesting, I think. Thanks for sharing these, Mallie.
