It’s Friday the 13th. I’ve always loved the number thirteen. It was always my first choice for a jersey number when sporting (and it stunk that I was mostly a goalkeeper, so I was forced to shoulder the single digit #1 for years).
Whenever there’s a “give me a number between” moment, 13 is my go-to selection.
There’s no spooky connotation. I don’t know what launched my love for the number. But it’s been “my” number for years.
Here’s hoping today’s playlists does justice both to the day and to the number!
What’s New This Week?
It’s a fun mix of sounds this week. You’ll hear quite a few “influences.” I got hints of Devo, The Cure, Weezer, early-2000s emo, and more.
I’m not one of those listeners who takes issues with a band or artist paying homage to the music that came before their own work. In fact, I’m of the mind that it’s nearly impossible, or maybe flat-out impossible, to come up with something so completely brand new and unique, that an intelligent and avid listener won’t find an influence or reference point. How about you?

“Wither” by Fat Dog
“That’s Just Life” by Billy Rooster Band

The Playlists
That’s this week’s Friday Fifteen, briefly discussed and ready to share. As always, I’d love to know what you think. Were there more hits than misses? Will you be making any additions to one of your playlists? Let a girl know!
I actually love it when I can hear the influence of another band in someone’s music. It’s frustrating when you recognise something but can’t get your hands around where you know it from, but it’s extremely satisfying when you can pinpoint it. I think a lot of people need to start being a little less precious about music in general.
LOVE the Thunder Queens cover of Cannonball! I love the forcefulness of the vocals.
that fat dog album is so good
