First and foremost, I’m sorry to hear about Turkey Trot. Thats never easy.

As for comfort food? You will be shocked (shocked!) to see New Order on the list. I’d also add The Replacements, Talking Heads, and Jawbreaker. George Benson too.

For this list specifically, “She Says (Come Around)” reminds me of a really fun time in my life, so I suppose that counts as a bit of comfort food as well.

Thanks, Kevin. Saturday is not going to be a fun day. I’m expecting a lot of listening to sad and nostalgic songs.

The Replacements and Jawbreaker would also make my list.

I think you need to make me a starter New Order playlist. I know the obvious selections, but I’ve never done a deeper dive.

Sorry to hear you’re having a tough week. I hope it gets better.

I listened to a lot of music in the 90s but I don’t actually know anything on this playlist so I’m looking forward to diving in.

My own “old friends” are things like REM, The Cranberries, Ocean Colour Scene and Counting Crows. There are lots of albums or even single tracks that I will play occasionally and be transported right back to my teens or early twenties.

Ocean Colour Scene, that’s one I need to check out, as it’s been AGES. The others you listed are also ‘90s favorites of mine, but the Jennifer Trynin song didn’t pull them as “you should also” listens.

Love Spit Love is a Psychadelic Furs side project, so you’ll recognize that voice!

Am I being stupid? I can’t see Love Spit Love on your list.

Track 12. Half A Life.

I only have eleven tracks!

I wonder if it’s blocked in the UK?

Possible. But you’d think that the UK would be A-OK with one of their own. LOL!

Very weird. What are you listening with? When I converted the Spotify playlists, both Apple and Tidal said they converted all 13 tracks.

It’s on Spotify. Kevin may be right. I know there are some discrepancies between US and UK availability.

I was a huge fan of Madder Rose back then and still am today. They reformed a few years ago and released a new album last year, and it is absolutely superb. Well worth giving it a spin.

Back again to say how much I enjoyed the Lotion track. It reminded me of Counting Crows, maybe? Great pick! Thanks, Mallie.

I'm sorry about your cat. We lost one several years ago at age 18, and it was very tough.

I went on a similar nostalgia dig last week when I was at the beach with our family. We hadn't been to the Outer Banks in more than a decade with everyone, and I found myself thinking back on songs I played for them when they were little. Not the children's stuff, but Dave Alvin, X, The Replacements, Steve Earle, live albums by Scott Miller & The Commonwealth and the late Charlie Robison. Each, in some instance, brought me back to a specific time.

I'm enjoying this week's list a lot. Several songs I recognized immediately (Matthew Sweet's 100% Fun is a top 30 album in my life story) and others I didn't but have appreciated. Take care.

What a great reminder of some of those I've also lost in the shuffle. By coincidence, I hadn't listened to Madder Rose in forever and then my son played a couple of their songs a couple of nights ago! That makes me feel old!

Sorry to hear about your cat. What a great age but that won't make it any easier.

I definitely consider certain artists "old friends!" From the 90s, I still find comfort in Matthew Sweet, Aimee Mann, Dave Matthews Band, Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, and Suzanne Vega. Now that I think of it, I even met Sweet, Amos, and Vega during that time!

Ugh. That sucks. Unironic thoughts and prayers to the Hart household.

I will not rant about school shootings.

Two of my go to songs on the topic(s) of life, loss, and moving on are "Aint Wastin Time No More" by The Allman Brothers Band and "Ripple" by Grateful Dead. AWTNM was written by Gregg right after his brother died. "Last Sunday mornin', tbe sunshine felt like rain . . ." Ripple is a magnificent metaphor for our lives and the impact we make on others, like a ripple in a pond. And the chorus "Let there be songs, to fill the air" speaks for itself.

I will not rant about school shootings.

Also old timey blues, generally, when you just need to wallow in it for awhile. Robert Johnson, Charley Patton, Son House. John Lee Hooker is especially outstanding in that capacity.

I will not rant about school shootings.

Lastly, are there any songs that specifically remind you of your cat ? Like, for our old dog Lucky it was Born To Run. Our current dog Gypsy its a tie between Gypsy by Stevie Nicks or Into The Mystic.

I will not rant about school shootings.

Peace out
