Love it! I was already a fan of this song in multiple versions, but I didn't know the ones by The Killer Barbies or Douglas County Daughters. So thanks!
I think the Superchunk version is my favorite, by a hair. Strangely enough, that was the first version I ever knew - if I had ever heard the original before that, I didn't remember it at the time. But it's one of those songs that I like in almost every version!
Back in December my wife and I were in Texas and we visited the Alamo, which brought to mind another song I love, an old country song, "Across the Alley from the Alamo."
On the way back to Austin I put on my favorite version, by The Pine Valley Cosmonauts, and then the Bob Wills version -- and then I found that Spotify has dozens of versions. I spent the whole drive playing one after another after another ...
The first three tracks are the winners here for me but I really enjoyed all five versions.
I'm with you on the first three being the most stellar listens, Lou!
Since you like the old girl groups, do you know Beach Day? They're current but channel a lot of that sound. Here's their latest: https://open.spotify.com/track/4khIWYCvXQIRKfk81fHYG5?si=b1dd7e473e8c49de

It's a great song, and all the versions do it justice!

Yes, my wife is a saint.
Very fun listen. The song was new to me, but I liked all the styles.
Happy to hear it, Ed!
