Where The Streets Have No Name
It's Monday, so it's time for multiple versions and killer covers!
Ugh. Much like the snow (currently ice) that’s still in our yards (in GEORGIA!!!), this cold is taking it’s damned sweet time leaving my body.
That means my brain has to work hard to focus on my work tasks, leaving me less time to wax inspired about today’s song.
Maybe it’s no real loss. The music generally matters a whole lot more than my specific takes on songs and artists!
The Song: The Original & The Covers
I’m one of those music lovers with a U2 album cutoff. Mine is Rattle & Hum. That’s neither here nor there, but if you wonder why the band is rarely mentioned, even when I’m looking back, there’s your why.
“Where The Streets Have No Name” came before the cutoff, and it’s one of my favorite songs, from the band and in general. It’s a repeat listen for me when I’m in the mood.
While the original is FANTASTIC, I think I’ve compiled some worthy contender covers. Will they earn a place on one of your playlists? You’ll have to tell me!
The Playlists
There you go. Six versions of the same song. Which did you like? Which weren’t quite your cup of tea? Let me know in the comments!
P.S. I’m pretty much always going to include a 2CELLOS option where it’s a possibility. Sorr, NOT sorry. They’re phenomenal!
Best one from this line-up? Has to be Pet Shop Boys!
The Pet Shop Boys have recorded some outstanding covers throughout their career and this is one of my favourites along with Always On My Mind and Somewhere, from West Side Story. Theirs is my version of choice this week although I enjoyed them all.
